November Reunited

Happy all Hallows eve!

It’s almost time for Reunited again and it’s going to be a really significant one – come along to find out why!

8th November 2008, at St. Martins in the Bullring… 7pm - 9pm

Bishop David will be there and the theme for the evening will be ‘An Alternative Christmas’.  We’ll be looking at what it’s like for people living in Bethlehem today and hearing about the issues of the situation in Israel and Palestine.

  • Our speaker for the evening will be Charlotte Marshall from Christian aid. Charlotte is the Unit Manager of Birmingham Christian Aid and has travelled extensively in the Middle East visiting Christian Aid partners and groups seeking reconciliation between Palestinian and Israeli communities. Charlotte will show an audio visual slide presentation examining the realities of life for ordinary Palestinians as a result of the Israeli occupation.
  • Al Zaytouna Nottingham Dabke Group will be performing contemporary and traditional Palestinian Dance (Dabke) and music. They’ll also be doing a workshop so you can learn some of the moves to impress your mates!
  • Our worship group for the evening will be the amazing local band ‘Highrise’ who are sure to be brilliant and are tipped to become huge in the next few years!
  • There’ll be an opportunity for you to get creative and produce some protest art.

We look forward to seeing you there for what promises to be an exciting and challenging event

Blessings in Him

REUNITED - 13th Sept

The next Reunited event is on 13th September

This time its all about green stuff - no not lettuce or snot – we mean the environment and we’re calling it “God’s Planet, Our World”

Make your way to the event in the greenest, most environmentally friendly way you can. Walk, cycle, run, take the bus or share a lift to get there.

West Midlands travel are offering free daysaver tickets (one per email address) why not get one and use it to get to reunited!? Dump the Pump http://www.travelwm.co.uk/features/DumpthePump-Jumponthebus/12/

We’ve got a fantastic band booked called Weapons of Sound www.weaponsofsound.com , they’re a musical junk-funk extravaganza of junk instrument percussionists who’ve played at events and festivals all round the world and they’ll be bringing enough junk with them for you to join in too!

There’ll be a workshop in the arts café downstairs where you’ll be able to make art out of recycled materials. Bring along some old guitar strings, if you can get hold of them!

We’ll have a fantastic environmental guest speaker, Jo Rathbone from eco church who’ll inspire us, challenge and inform us about the hope of creation and the role we have to play in the renewal of the world. http://ecocongregationew.blogspot.com/

We’ll also be collecting old mobile phones to recycle, so bring yours along.

You’ll be able to meet the new Digital Youth Adviser, Craig Gilman. Craig, Helen’s assistant Youth Adviser will be looking after the website, facebook pages, myspace etc (hence Digital in his title) and will be looking after future Reunited events too.

Along with the usual mix of creative prayer stations, interactive worship and challenging messages it’ll be an event not to be missed!

We’ve also now got an updated myspace page http://www.myspace.com/reunitedbham

REUNITED - 9th Feb

Reunited 2008 starts on FEB 9th and is set to be a fantastic one.
Let’s start the right way and get praying!!! We had Love Life, Live Lent last year.. well this year the Bishop will be launching, Too Deep for Words to help us pray through lent.
And we won’t just be talking about prayer at Reunited… we will actually be doing it!
Ignation spirituality… what on earth is that?? Well come along and meet a Jesuit who will help us in that. Prayer stations, a prayer labyrinth and a great mix of musical talent.
FILL will be performing, and Manna, an acappella group and the wonderfully chilled voice of Bethan Marshall.

New times 7-9pm St. Martins, Feb 9th

See you there.

New Year Resolutions?

I hope you all had a great Christmas and found something of the reality of God amongst all those presents and bugs and germs…
Thinking in the new year about new starts/resolutions etc and really want 2008 to be a year of prayer and commitment to God.
Following God isn’t just about a buzz from a good bit of singing worship to keep you going but about sacrifices, authenticity and with God’s help making this world a better place….

God is there is the heights of experience, (don’t forget to thank Him when you’re there) but also in the depths and the pain.
This year 2008 seek God in all your experiences; good and bad. He is a God who laughs, but He is also a God who cries.

Let prayer be a key feature of 2008. At Reunited (9th Feb) we will have prayer as our main focus and the Bishop will be launching ‘Too Deep for Words’ this years Lent thing.
Make sure you’re there 7pm at St. Martins and experience new ways of connecting with God through prayer.

29th Nov, 2007

St. Basil’s Sleep Out

Think of us…. tomorrow night (Fri 30th) 11 members of the Bishop’s Youth Council will be joining the Bishop and Helen (Youth Adviser) to sleep rough at a car park in Digbeth. Rain is forecast!!!
If we call ourselves Christians we should be acting out what we talk about making a positive difference in the world and starting in our own fair city.
So sponsor us, think of us, but also pray and think of those who sleep rough every night of their lives that do not do it by choice; that do not have a home and love to go back to on Saturday morning.
Be inspired… make a difference!

9th Nov, 2007
